Q. I HAVE AN OLDER HOUSE WITH 16 X 16 ACOUSTIC CEILING TILES THROUGHOUT HOUSE. I HAVE REMODELED MUCH OF THE HOUSE WITH THE KITCHEN NEXT IN LINE. I NEED TO REPLACE THE CEILING TILES (SOME WATER DAMAGED BEFORE NEW ROOFING). WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? ECONOMICALLY & EASE OF INSTALLATION. (MY HEART LIKES WOOD.) |

A. Hi Jeff,
So many homeowners hesitate to remove acoustic ceiling tiles, simply because they don't know what the tiles are covering! It seems like you are ready to move forward, and for that I applaud you. The first step will be to remove the acoustic tiles and the frames. Then, you've got lots of options. Keeping in mind ease of installation and finding a good cost, I recommend considering wood planks, which you can install yourself and which cost less than $4/square foot. I particularly like the "WoodHaven" series from Armstrong -- they'll add a fresh, welcoming look to your entire kitchen.
